if i buy a laptop from the united states. would i be able to use it in singapore

if i buy a laptop from the united states. would i be able to use it in singapore?
will the plug be the same? and are there differences in the electricity current? would a simple universal adapter like this http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-F8E449-Universal-Travel-Adapter/dp/B00008O393/ref=pd_bbs_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1204830979&sr=8-1 solve the problem? oops. i realise thats not possible. but dosent laptops usually have a switch that allows us to change the voltage underneath it?

yes probably you will have problem with plug type if your laptop dosn't come with different plug coz in USA they use plug type A (two parallel flat prongs) and B (same as A but earth connector) and in singapore they use BS 1363 type and also you need a voltage converter to converte 230V to120V or simply ask for a 220v 50H power supply for your laptop because in USA their electricity Voltage is 120V at 60H and in Singapore it is 230V at 50H so when you want to buy your laptop you should ask for these converters also if they provide and also there are some specific edition of laptops for different countries you might not find yours is USA additional info: almost all new laptops has an adaptor with auto switch voltage and they will input voltage from 100 to 230 v and 50 to 60H so try to choose one with this specificaions. almost all hp pavillian models
