What's the best way to recharge my iPod while traveling in Asia
What's the best way to recharge my iPod while traveling in Asia?
I will be traveling for 2 months. I will only have access to internet cafe computers on an unpredictable basis, so charging from a computer using my USB cable is a little impractical. I will be in Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore, so getting outlet adaptors for all those countries also seems impractical. Also, do iPods adjust for different voltage automatically the way new laptops do, or would I need to get a voltage adaptor too? I'd especially like to hear from people who have actually used an iPod on a long-term trip through Southeast Asia.

Answer 1 :
If you have a car u can buy aDC to AC convertor & charge it in the car. If you have a lighter adapter already u can use that instead.
Answer 2 :
I went to Singapore and Malaysia last year. I brought my video iPod with me and also a USB power adapter. Didn't have any problem charging the iPod with it at the hotels, so I don't think you'll need a voltage adaptor either. And most hotels these days can provide you with outlet adaptors, assuming you'll be staying at the hotels. If not, then, yeah, you just have to bring outlet adaptors with you.

Answer 1 :
I would go to Newegg.com. They have a good selection of laptops and they allow you to filter your search based on a number of parameters, like price, purpose (what you'll be using it for), and you can have them listed in different ways. Such as by lowest price to highest, higher to lowest, best ratings, featured items, etc.. They also have a compare feature which allows you to easily compare items. I suggest you go there and then after looking for a while and finding some laptops you might like to buy, come back here and ask another questions requesting the opinions of others on the laptops you are interested in. Newegg.com might automatically convert it to the SDP, but if it doesn't, you can go to xe.com and convert it yourself. I think Newegg will ship worldwide, I'm not 100% sure tho. Even if it doesn't, it's still a good source to look at and compare laptops

Should I buy a laptop in the US or in Singapore? And should I buy a Mac or a PC
Should I buy a laptop in the US or in Singapore? And should I buy a Mac or a PC?
I'm moving to Singapore in just under 3 weeks for grad school, and my laptop computer seems to be nearing its end days. I absolutely need a computer for grad school and it seems like I will need one soon. Would I be better off buying one in the US (where I'm from, and where I'll be located for the next 2 weeks), or in Singapore (where I'll live for the next two years). Also - my last three computers have been pcs (2 dells and a Toshiba) with a life span between 2 and 3 years each... is it time for me to convert to Mac? Any advice would be appreciated!

Answer 1 :
US, Mac.
Answer 2 :
I'll be blunt and personally, I dont care what you buy. Mac is exspensive, incompatible with mainstream software, highly over rated. Why spend a fortune on a Mac when you can buy a PC thats compatible with the software market, more powerful, and for a 3rd the price? As far as your Mac becoming outdated, its outdated when you buy it so I guess your right, it couldnt be anymore outdated than when you bought it huh?
Answer 3 :
US and MAC
Answer 4 :
well if you are going to lean what ever language they have in singapore or whayt ever then you sjhoulkd just buy one there but if it were me i would just buy one here becuase that way you know that you are getting the actual comouter (no offence Singapore). now about your pc or mac problem. you should definityly convert to mac. they have probally the best computering power next to alienware. but the only problem with alienware is the operation system. so i would say you should totally go mac. macs can't get viruses becuase hackers are too cheap to buy macs and they figure if they want to infect as many people as possible they will infect pc's. so go mac. its the best way to go and well apple knowws there stuff.
Answer 5 :
A Mac is a waste of money. By a Toshiba or Sony laptop (4GB RAM) from a reliable seller either here or there. See if you can get one with an upgrade to Windows 7 when it comes out in December. Be cool in Singapore. Very law and order place.
Answer 6 :
I have a Diploma of information technoligy networking and I have been studying IT for the last 3 years We use Linux for some servers, and mosty windows for others Unless you are in graphics design, I would insists to stick with Windows Mac is a great operating system for some, it is based on UNIX which Linux is based, and it is a very stable OS, compared to windows, it rarealy fails. The issue you will have if you go mac is you will have a hard time getting programs to work on there, I mean you go to a store or download a program, and its only available for windows, it would annoy you. where as, if you are just running windows, you can pretty much install anything. So if you are into graphics design, I would go for a mac, anything else, stick to windows. The other thing was, when I was buying my laptop, I had I thought of buying a mac, it was going to cost me $1600 AUS, where as, if I get a Windows Vista laptop with the same spec, it was only going to cost 1100, so there is a bit of price difference there as well. If your living in Singapore, I would personally buy the laptop from singapore because if you have any issues, like a defection with the computer or something is faulty, you can just take it straight back to the store and sort it out with them, where as if you have purchased it in the states, and you get to singapore and something turns out to be wrong, then you are going to have a lot of issues I hope this helps you and goodluck :) DaF
Answer 7 :
I suggest that you buy a laptop in the US. Price can be varies from place to place especially in Singapore. My experience in Singapore is that I want to buy a PS3 in Malaysia which cause around $700 (First Release) and when asking in Singapore it was $800. More or less Singapore's product is more expensive than other while quality mostly the same. choosing Mac? Well, it depends entirely on you. A normal PC runs on window is very handy, ample provision of software. In contrast there is limit for Mac not many programs are usable. But if Mac is stylish and popular amongst a variety of people both older and younger. Which one? I suggest you should decide on your own perspective.
Answer 8 :
This is kinda easy- buy a HP Laptop and forget your worries forever. MAC is WAY too expensive and most programs won't work on it- so whats the use? The HP dv4 series and the Mini or the dv6 or dv7 series if you need a bigger screen and a heavier laptop are perfect choices. Cheap, discounted and efficient, they are amazingly sturdy and steadfast. They rarely disappoint and with the 4th of July Sale going on I'm just SCREAMING that buy a HP laptop from the HP USA website. 50% discount dude, what more do you want? Cheapest laptops, best deals, 1 year international warranty. Singapore or India, China or Norway- your laptop is safe and secure for a year and thats for sure! So make the right choice today, Its definitely HP USA!
Answer 9 :
Truth is... You shouldn't buy anything. You should do more research. You should educate yourself. You should take the time to collect the information you need to be able to make an informed decision. Sure... it makes sense that if you are going to be living in Singapore for the length of time most laptops are going to last, you would buy one there with a power adapter made for the local power grid. I mean, to me, that would be COMMON SENSE... apparently it is not common sense though, else you would have already come to that conclusion, and you would not be asking. Then there is the customs thing... traveling with this laptop... conversion kits... again, more arguments for "Why did you even consider buying it here in America first?" THEN there is this MAC question. You must not know anything about MACs. I mean, you must not know a thing. You must not have even gone and looked at them. I understand. Going to a store, and getting your hands on a Macbook must be scary. Afraid of Mac cooties or something I imagine. How could I be so rude or insensitive? If you were familiar with Macs at all, you would realize there are fundamental differences in the interface and design. Hello... no right click, for one. Do you realize that not everyone who writes software for PCs, writes a Mac version as well? Do you already know if there are Mac versions of all the software you intend to use? If not, why didn't you determine that beforehand? How smart of a decision is it, to think about either getting a Mac or a PC, if the software suite you want is only for the PC? Sure, Macs are built better. This is because there are fewer manufacturers making the parts that go into them,so there is greater compatibility between the parts and the OS. The OS is written specifically to work with the hardware it is on (as opposed to Windows, which is designed to attempt to work with whatever hardware you have drivers for... thus windows and minor compatibility issues, errors, BSOD, etc). People aren't writing malware, spyware, or Viral infections for Mac OSx.... but they are writing to infect the 88% of all computer users out there, that are using Windows. Will getting a Mac guarantee a longer lasting laptop? Nope. Wouldn't it be smartest, as I already suggested, to purchase a laptop there, that you can expect to last the duration of time you are there... so you can dispose of it when you leave? It's like going to Jamaica. You buy a cheap motorcycle when you get there... and sell it when you leave. You don't figure out how to transport the brand new BMW motorcycle you bought just for the trip.
Answer 10 :
Lenovo/IBM Thinkpad. Seems to be pretty popular in countries like Singapore. I'd go with what the locals use. If a company has a presence there, it would be easier to get stuff repaired. Whatever brand it may be. I think the US offers the best pricing, since consumers are so avid here. You probably won't find deals that are as hot in Singapore than over here.
Answer 11 :
It's unfortunate that a fewer people giving answers to your question are giving poor or incorrect information about Macs. I have used Windows PCs (such as Dells) and Macs for over 15 years. So, I have extensive experience with both. The truth: Macs have extensive software. Just about anything you would want... you'll find for a Mac. The exceptions would be specialty software, a few games, etc. All the major software.... is written for both Windows and Mac. Anyone who tells you otherwise is simply incorrect. Macs are virtually virus free. For every 100,000 Widows viruses you'll have 1 virus for a Mac. So, which one is more safe? The answer is simple. Mac Operating System is much more stable that Windows, especially Vista. Vista is a resource hog and it probably the most disliked operating system software that you can find. Mac's operating system (Leopard) is very stable, user friendly and fast. If you run Vista, you'll NEED at least 2GB of ram in order for it to run well. You'll only need 1GB of ram for Leopard to run well. Mac hardware (the computer itself) is well-constructed. Mac/Apple is always innovative. Microsoft is behind Apple re: development and innovation. It's true. Mac users are always shocked when Microsoft "innovates" something that Mac users have been enjoying for years. Macs ARE more expensive. Yes, they are! But, you're getting a better computer! Just like an Acura is more expensive than a Honda. But, which one is better? The acura. So, the cost of a Mac is justified. Be cautious about listening to people who are anti-Mac. How many of them have actually owned one? Why are Mac users the most content computer users? Why do Macs consistently rate high on review charts? (Consumer Reports, etc). Just check out the user reviews for various Macs on Amazon. You'll quickly see that most people that switch from Windows to Mac are very happy that they did. In fact, some will say, "I should have switched over sooner."
Answer 12 :
PC in the US... No matter what kind of laptop you get, you will run into similiar problems.. (Macs use the same components as other PCs). The person who says mac has only 1 virus is totally wrong, and so is the person who said that it was built better.. They are going with misconceptions.. If it is the power adapter connection the answer is easy to remedy.. 1) Keep the cord as straight as possible (preventing wear on the AC adapter) 2) Always fully charge the battery (don't disconnect until it is done) 3) Once a month, wear down the battery and fully charge (to get rid of partial charged cells) PC=Variety of specs, options, quality, prices, vendors, support Mac=One vendor, limited options, still more expensive. Look below for more information.. Today, Macs use a subset of PC hardware. Why spend extra to get the same CPU chips, graphics cards and OS X isn't as secure as you think.. Don't believe the lies that Macs are better than PCs at graphics/animation.. Dreamworks Animation http://www.dreamworksanimation.com/ under studio click on Technology of Animation, an independent film maker I know uses PCs, a graphic artist I used to know uses PCs also. A number of PCs can also run OS X (Mac OS) http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=os+x+on+pc&btnG=Google+Search&aq=0&oq=os+x+on+ as well just that Apple makes it illegal in order to get Market share.. The reason why Mac can run native Windows is because it is using a subset of PC hardware, If you decide to buy a Mac for running Windows, you will still have to get the same virus/spyware protection, and run into the same issues as a regular PC. Now is a Mac worth buying for OS X? I say: NO... for the following reasons... ADVANTAGES WINDOWS : Aprox 90% of the market is Windows and most PCs have windows already pre-installed. 1) Some websites require Internet Explorer, to run IE on Mac you really get ies4osx which is the Windows version of IE running really buggy and illegal if you don't have a legitimate copy of Windows. 2) Supports more devices (printers and other things you hook into the computer). 3) More business software/games 4) Want the dock on OS X (Mac)? google/yahoo rocketdock, objectdoc. 5) Used by businesses. ADVANTAGES LINUX : 1) FREE (most versions are) 2) Install software by either 1) Synaptic Package Manager, 2) Add/Remove 3) Opening a .deb or .rpm file (depending on distribution) 2) Like the Mac OS X effects? go yahoo/google COMPIZ FUSION which can do any cool effect a Mac can do and many ore.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4Fbk52Mk1w http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3gkX9HDfEE (there is no flickering when you use it like on the video, not sure why the person has the flicker) 3) Mac OS X Doc? google/yahoo Avant Window Navigator.Cairo Dock, http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3rf5q_cairo-dock-mac-os-x-leopard-dock-on_tech http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0hzi22g2DE 4) It is FASTER/MORE SECURE to surf on the internet 5) Some Windows programs work with Wnehq/Crossover (also avail on Mac, but why pay $$$) Instructions how to download, burn and boot http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/use-ubuntu-live-cd-to-backup-files-from-your-dead-windows-computer/ Dual Boot Instructions http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_windows_xp_and_linux_xp_installed_first.htm SECURITY Mac OS X was hacked in 2006 less than 30 minutes, and within 2 minutes in a contest in 2008, and within 10 seconds in 2009. In 2008, Linux and Vista were not hacked until another day when restrictions were lowered. Vista was next, and then Linux. In 2009 Windows 7 fell shortly after the Mac but Linux was unscathed. Macs are standardized with Cameras, if your Mac gets hacked, the hacker can turn on your camera with more ease. Please Note: All OS's have vulnerabilities. http://www.zdnet.com.au/news/security/soa/Mac-OS-X-hacked-under-30-minutes/0,130061744,139241748,00.htm http://www.infoworld.com/article/08/03/27/Gone-in-2-minutes-Mac-gets-hacked-first-in-contest_1.html http://www.infoworld.com/article/09/03/19/Researcher_cracks_Mac_in_10_seconds_1.html http://news.softpedia.com/news/Microsoft-Finds-Irony-in-Mac-OS-X-Getting-Hacked-Before-Vista-SP1-82135.shtml VIRUSES Mac OS X has viruses (and significantly on the rise), a friend of mine has a virused Mac. As more users use Macs, more viruses will come out for it. Especially when users think "they are safe". http://infosecurity.us/?p=4005 http://blogs.chron.com/techblog/archives/2008/07/malware_authors_take_aim_at_growing_number_of_1.html http://www.macsimumnews.com/index.php/archive/poll_have_you_noticed_an_increase_in_malware_viruses_etc_on_your_mac/ QUALITY/PROBLEMS Contrary to belief, Macs are not better quality. Apple also has been changing suppliers to try to "lower the price" and thus lowering quality. Even with the lower prices, Macs still cost more, they spend a higher percent of budget trying to make it look pretty, and marketing. Sample of problems: Overheating Macbooks, OS X- not responding to keyboard, some units with 16bit screens, etc. Apple statistics are misleading since Mac users with problem machines are more likely to go out and buy a new computer than PC users. Apple is lowering prices which means you can expect lower quality than in the past. Apple had switched the manufacturers producing parts. OS X also has problems slowing down. http://news.cnet.com/8301-13506_3-10020263-17.html http://www.tuaw.com/2008/08/01/apples-quality-dwindling-my-macbook-pro-sob-story/ http://www.appledefects.com/ http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/os-x-operating-system/107748-mac-os-leopard-running-slow.html Repairs are more expensive than PCs since the IMac, Mac Mini are compact units, and Apple charges a premium for their services. Some repairs can be done by another repair service but the compact design of the computer causes problems.

With an IMac, if the problem is with the monitor, the whole computer would have to be brought in. IMac and Mac mini lack expansion. Answer 1 :
Hi if you have a laptop you should bring it and when you in the hotel you can use the unlimited broadband service, some charges may or may not be there for the use of internet but you need to check with the hotel where you are going to stay. Laptop/Computer for rent? there are hell a lot of internet cafe all over Singapore so why there should be a need for rental?
Answer 2 :
Just bring your laptop along, it is convenient to use here.
Answer 3 :
There are lots of internet cafes everywhere. The charges are usually SGD2/hr. You can bring along your own laptop. I heard most hotels have free broadband. I don't think renting a laptop is such a good idea though.
Answer 4 :
As far as i know you can't rent a laptop. The best way would be to bring your laptop if you need to use it considerable time. If it's only for checking a couple of e-mails then you can go to a internet cafe or business center @ the hotel you are staying.
Answer 5 :
No computer rental shop here...but there are a few Internet Cafe, where most teenages play Online Games there. Bring a laptop is good.
Answer 6 :
singapore got a lot of lans shop so never mind
Answer 7 :
Just bring it...there are no laptop renting service here. about the free wifi, you can actually get free wifi at any fast food outlet such as McDonald, but for online time longer than your battery life, go Starbuck. McD wont provide power source.

Forget Saudi, Singapore is generally cheaper, but not a high quality, it might not be the real thing so it would be crap, the US is more expensive, but still cheap, and it's more worth your money.

are techy items cheap in Singapore?
Iam going to Singapore next month. Is it true that laptops, digital cameras, cellphones, mp3 players are cheap in Singapore? Which store will i go?

Answer 1 :
Go to Sim Lim Square that's where most of the tech stuff is but I last visited there about 2 years ago. Hong Kong is better.
Answer 2 :
There are 2 places in Singapore to get cheap tech stuff: Sim Lim Sq: Avoid the lower 2 floors are very bad. I had a very bad experience when I tried to buy things there. They mainly target tourist. The shops at the higher floor are cheaper. Same good but different price. Map : http://www.streetdirectory.com/asia_travel/travel/travel.php?travel_id=8021&travel_site=13571 Funan There is a super mart called Challenger at the top floor. Fixed price so you don't fear of being cheated especially for us tourists. Members have further discount. Map : http://www.streetdirectory.com/asia_travel/travel/travel.php?travel_id=2904&travel_site=12883 After that remember to collect your receipt to claim money for the GST (good and service tax) with your passport at the information counter.
Answer 3 :
Generally, most tourists who come to Singapore will find the tech and electronics items cheap and reasonable, considering the quality of the products. If you are a bargain hunter, try Sim Lim Square and Mustafa Centre especially. If you prefer a shop that is most established and has a bigger reputation, try a shop like Harvey Norman and Best Denki

Answer 1 :
Electric plug here in Singapore has 3 hole and 240v. Better buy a transformer from there and bring it here. I remember my boyfriend bought a digital clock from US and i plug it here i thought he bought a broke one but then he found out that i didn't use a transformer and i plug it directly. Buy a 240v transformer for asia.
Answer 2 :
Before you go out and buy a transformer, check your individual items to see if you need them - the power cord for your laptop probably has a 110-240v input range (you can check it on the panel on the back/bottom), so you can use it in Singapore with just a simple adapter, that you can pick up for a few cents, rather than going to the expense of a transformer. Same for all your other chargers..check them out before you buy a transformer
Answer 3 :
I am very sure all Laptop power supply is AUTO V ( works for 110V TO 240 v ) AS Singapore is 220 V / USA IS 110 V . only you need a adaptor to change from US 2 P to Local 3 P . every ways is sailing, cost SGD just 3 dollars For a studies , i advice you to buy one set of WORLD LAPTOP Traver converter kit ( complete with world power plug with 5ft extension cable , world phone plug/socket with6ft cable ,i-pod ,mp3 other audio earphones and ac adaptor connect/socket ) Our IT mall, Funam / Sim Lim sailing at SGD 23 + with small handy casing . i believe you need all this things in you room for the Laptop .Oh ! be good to study here .
Answer 4 :
You also can buy the step-down transformer in Singapore. Any major electrical stores should have them. The electric wall outlets in SIngapore is rectangular 3-pin and 240V.
Answer 5 :
don't buy the transformer from Us, buy them in Singapore

I'm in Singapore. My friend in USA will send me a laptop via USPS. Do I have to pay any fee (except USPS' fee)
Do I have to pay 7% of the laptop price when receiving it? If my friend send the laptop as a gift, I will not have to pay any fee. Is that right? Thank you.

Answer 1 :
yes you need to pay.....
Answer 2 :
Who ever sends it to you will pay but you will not have to pay any shipping costs when it arrives to you.
Answer 3 :
you will have to pay all the fees if your friend does not do it for you> you didnt say how your friend is sending it to you> there is like over night express, differnet ways to do it> none is cheap tho> wouldnt it be cheaper for you to jsut buy one where you are at? as i was going to do this for a friend of mine in africa amd it cost more to send it than the computer cost new> so see i think this is a dum decesion on your part and your friends to.> you have import . export rules etc you have to go by> a few things so you need to contact your post office are where ever you have to go and find it out> it is not worth it.
Answer 4 :
yes.. you will need to pay for the 7% GST so advice your friend to declare the price as low as possible.
Answer 5 :
Make sure you have a power transformer for it, power in the US is 110 v so if you plug it in w/o one it will blow the computer. You will also need a converter for the plug unless the transformer comes with one to fit it.
Answer 6 :
i dont think you will need to pay for the tax. the shipper will pay for all shipping and necessary fees before even usps will accept his package. if it is a gift then i wont complain, but if you asked him to buy it and ship it then it would be cheaper to buy the laptop in s'pore. furthermore, you will need transformer, plug adaptors

I suggest you not to buy a sony laptop. They have plenty of problems. One of the problems is the overheating which cause your graphic card to crash. Other problems could be the battery which doesn't last too long, screen crashes etc. My opinion is that sony computers don't worth the high price they have

What is the difference between a travel adapter and a converter?
I'm bringing my laptop from Singapore to USA, and as far as I know, the voltage difference is close to a 100w. I've a travel adapter with me, do I need a converter too?

It is wise to bring a converter as some times you will need to scale or upscale voltages. With the wattage may work but some minor details can be noticed. Usually power supply's have the ability to adjust the input power to whatever power is needed for your laptop. Consult to your manual to ensure that this is capable

Unless yo resident or currently in Singapore, otherwise that might not help coz item cost plus shipping cost and handling might take it back to the price of laptops in your area. So, i propose that you buy from your area so as to benefit from after sales support and service

Shopping tips in Malaysia & Singapore
Shopping tips in Malaysia & Singapore?
I'm going to Malaysia in time for the Malaysia Mega Sale & I'll also be in Singapore too. I want to know where its much cheaper to buy a laptop? I'll be there for a limited time only so I need to get tips. Do I get a rebate if I arrive & leave from Malaysia when I buy something from Singapore? Does Malaysian government give rebates to tourist when they buy things in Malaysia? Can you guys give me an estimated price on good laptops with great specifications? I want to get a good bargain. Where do you guys think its cheaper to buy a laptop? Malaysia or Singapore? Should I decided to buy a laptop in Singapore, do I get a rebate at the bus station for KL since my return flight is in Malaysia. Do PC/ Laptop stores in Malaysia & Singapore credible? Could you give me stores with great price & won't scam with with faulty laptops? Thanks

Answer 1 :
Computer stuff you can get bargains at Low Yat Plaza around Bukit Bintang area. You can survey the prices over there, cos all the shops will be selling roughly the same stuff. Many shops will have advertised some of their products, so as long as you do your homework, you wont be cheated. Alternatively, you can search through Dell website to find a good bargain. Prices are also here for comparison. If you are patient, you'll wait for the PIKOM PC Fair. Excellent bargains for computers during that time. Unfortunately, I dont think you can get any rebate from Malaysia. Things are practically very cheap as it is.
Answer 2 :
I always buy computer and other stuff at Low Yat...My dad likes there...lot of stuff and good bargain..like the girl at the top said....you can't get rebate in Malaysia coz the price are very cheap

Buying laptops in Shanghai
Buying laptops in Shanghai.?
Im from Singapore. Is the acer laptop with latest configs in china cheaper than Singapore? one mid end laptop in singapore: SG$1299.00
China - 3 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
My friend....Nothing of quality is cheaper in China. The only thing that are cheaper are Cheap Chinese goods filled with lead paint.
Answer 2 :
Maybe......... While finding the exact acer laptop with the latest configs in Shanghai would be a little difficult, you can certainly find a Lenovo (China made) laptop that is of equal quality. Lenovo has a good reputation both in China and worldwide. It will almost certainly be cheaper for a high end Lenovo or other Chinese made comp than an Acer. Buying a laptop in China, you usually end up with the Chinese version of Windows unless you go through the proper channels. It is not easy to switch over the English windows as you have to install your entire OS again. Contrary to the previous comment, there are some high end goods that are cheaper in China. If you can find it at a street market, you can usually get it cheaper.
Answer 3 :
These kind of questions always seem to come up, the best thing to do is to know the prices well in your home country, and then you can easily compare prices when you get there. Always make sure that the warranty covers you in Singapore, most laptop manufacturers offer worldwide coverage. Also, consider any duty you may have to pay when you return home and other factors such as language and keyboard differences. Shanghai was recently named by the Wall Street Journal as the 2nd best place as far as prices in the world to buy electronics, after Seoul, but this may not be true for the particular item you're looking to buy. Unless there is a major difference in price, you're probably better off buying the laptop where you live, that way not only will you have service from the manufacturer, but from the store you bought it from as well, most stores have exchange policies that can protect you and it won't do you any good if the store is thousands of miles from where you live, especially with something like an expensive laptop

Aircraft have an AC outlet for charging your laptop. It's usually located on the armrest. Some airlines do allow internet access but you have to pay extra. I don't know if SIA has it, nor do I know if economy class passengers have access.
Answer 2 :
SIA has outlets depending on what type of aircraft you are flying. Check out www.seatguru.com to find out if the type of aircraft you will be on has an outlet to charge your laptop. You can take your laptop on board a SIA flight. However SIA has a great in-flight entertainment system so you should not be too bored. There will also be movies and shows that you can watch on your personal TV screen

Where can i find a charger/Adapter for my Acer travelmate laptop in Singapore and how much will it cost?
A few days ago i lent my brother my charger because hes using an Acer as well , a different model than mine though..Since then ive been having problems with my charger such as: 1. When i plug it in the light in the front that indicates battery power status flickers and sometimes goes out and therefore doesnt charge. 2. I have to twist the knob of the adapter (the part where it goes into the hole in my laptop) in all kinds of ways before the "charging" ember light comes on 3. If i even move the wire a bit the ember light goes off and it stops charging 4. I NEVER EVER had this problem untill i lent my brother my charger... Could the different voltages on the adapters required for our laptops have caused my own adapter to malfunction? =..(

If they're personal items of course. You only run into a problem if you're bringing them in bulk and clearly plan on selling them. Also I assume you mean bringing in a personal bag. If you're shipping them there in the mail or are moving there and they are in a crate there are some other taxes and regulations that may apply so check that. Answer 1 :
....this doesn't exactly make sense to me. I think you are referring to simply a store, and I have no idea? personally I would see if you can use http://www.tigerdirect.com
Answer 2 :
Can someone explain why ALEX L would direct NHI to Tiger Direct computer Co when all NHI asked was which mall was best to buy a computer. Why would ALEX L not suggest Sim Lim Square where there are dozens of computer stores or SUNTEC CITY or ORCHARD or better still suggest the 3rd Saturday each month when an evening FLEA is held at TANGLIN MALL. I cannot imagine ALEX L having any difficulty understanding NHI's simple and direct question. Can someone suggest why?
Answer 3 :
Courts, Dell stores, Suntec (emc2,dell,courts,carrefour,harvey norman, etc etc). And of course, Sim lim square or Mustafa if u r looking for budget ranges or custom built ones (Simlim) at down to Earth rates

Hi, you've already missed 2 mega IT Shows already, it happened this month back only. HOWEVER, the PC SHOW 2007 is already over. It happened during The GREAT SINGAPORE SALE period, from 25 May - 22 Jul 2007. Details of Event: PC Show 2007 will boast over 400 exhibitors showcasing thousands of products, including the latest in audio-visual equipment, entertainment gadgets, digital photography, printing and imaging solutions and consumer electronics, it is definitely a "not-to-be missed event". PC Show celebrating its 16th Anniversary this year is Singapore ’s longest-running and largest consumer IT show. Year on year thousands have flocked to the show in search of getting their hands on the latest products and gadgets. Offering some of the best deals in town, the event is a 1-stop-shop for all IT lovers. Last year alone the Show raked up S$18 million in sales and drew crowds of over 700,000, hitting a whopping 4.5 million visitors over the past 15 years. NOTE: Anyway, if you still want to buy a laptop from the shops, the BEST place to go is definitely SIM LIM SQUARE. The mall is selling all sorts of electronics and electrical products, ranging from home appliances to other office or personal gadgets. Products like Cd-roms, DVD-roms, authentic brands like VCD/DVD players, HDTVs, Personal Computers, Laptops, MP3 players, Digicams, Videocams, Handphones and alot more to name are all found inside the mall. You sure can get the best deal when you visit Sim Lim Square. And if you happen to travel between the Great Singapore Sale duration, you can even get more bargains!! ** IMPORTANT: For your info, since you're a visitor or traveller, REMEMBER to keep ALL your original receipts or invoices so you can claim back the 5% GST (duties and taxes) before you depart from the airport. Make sure your receipts have been accompanied with the copies of the duties & tax claim forms and the forms have been stamped or signed by the vendors. Not only that, retaining the original receipts and invoices will assist you when you need to do any exchange or refunds during your stay in Singapore and also to provide the warranty period for your purchases!! Have shopping in Singapore and hope you get the best deals out of it!!
Answer 2 :
At the back of Bugis Street, in the main road there is a circular building, and all that it sells is computers, so you won't have any problems getting a laptop there. Another place is Mustafas in Little India. To get there just tell the taxi driver Mustafas, and he will know where you want to go. Singapore is not as cheap as it use to be, in fact you might find the prices a bit more expensive than what you pay in the western countries. You can get a bus to KL in Malaysia, which takes 5 hours, and everything is considerably cheaper there.
Answer 3 :
