What kind of power converters do I need for my laptop and curling irons in Singapore

What kind of power converters do I need for my laptop and curling irons in Singapore?
I live in the US and know that I will need some sort of converter for my "stuff" while visiting Singapore.
Singapore - 6 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
get a converter which converts 110 volts to 220 volts...thats what i do when i go to india hope this helps
Answer 2 :
dont get what u mean.. 220volts?? 3pin plugg??
Answer 3 :
Go to Radio Shack or Walmart Luggage area and buy a converter kit. Not to expensive. It will tell you on the package it can be used everywhere in the world. I would leave the curling irons at home and buy local. Small electrical items are very cheap. Have a good trip. Cheers
Answer 4 :
You'll need a 13-amp plug (3 pin), specifically, BS1363 plug.
Answer 5 :
Laptops will automatically convert AC110 to AC240. As for curler, unless its meant for travelling or has a switch to change from 110V to 240V, then u can use that. In Singapore we use AC240. Singapore uses UK standard 3 pin plug. Anyway, you can always borrow it from the hotel, I always do that. Enjoy shopping
Answer 6 :
Hi, I had the same question and with my research I found out that Most laptops dont need the power converter. You will only need the appropriate plug (adapter) to use it in Singapore. Just to double check Look for the voltage necessary for the laptop (it will be on the rectangular block of the power supply cord). You should see something like 100-240V. This means you can use any power source that has voltage in that range. And for Curling iron get the adapter with 1600 Watts. Note that 50 watts converter is no good for Curling iron. I brought one today from Ebay for $16.00. In store its more costly. following is the one I brought. It comes with plugs too

Does the Economy class on Asiana Air/Singapore Air or Korean Air have power supply for laptops

Does the Economy class on Asiana Air/Singapore Air or Korean Air have power supply for laptops?
Iam going on a trip to Korea in about a month and i was thinking about taking my laptop with me....but My laptop doesnt have good battery so it would die out. so i found this power adapter thing on amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000QFL... But when i did a small research, it seems like it only works on business/1st class. i was curious if the power supply is provided in ECONOMY class rather for Asiana/Singapore or Korean Air. thanks in advance. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000QFLWC4/ref=cm_pdp_rev_itm_img_1

just buy a new battery pack

Asiana only has power ports in Economy on one of their two configurations of the Boeing 747. However, it's regular 110V AC power, which should accept a standard US or European plug. http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Asiana/Asiana_Boeing_747-400_full.php Singapore airlines has laptop power supplies on a few of their planes: The A340 has power ports in economy. http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Singapore_Air/Singapore_Air_Airbus_A345.php All the seats on the A380 have AC power as well as USB. http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Singapore_Air/Singapore_Air_Airbus_A380.php The newest of the fleet's Boeing 777 aircraft (777-300ER) have AC power in economy. http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Singapore_Air/Singapore_Air_Boeing_777-300ER.php On Korean Air, some aircraft have been updated to have power for select economy seats. http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Korean_Air/Korean_Air_Boeing_747-400_combi.php The 777-300 has power for every other economy seat. http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Korean_Air/Korean_Air_Boeing_777-300.php

Is there a strict policy on laptop computers entering singapore

Is there a strict policy on laptop computers entering singapore?
Mine has a genuine OS in it but the hardware doesn't have a sticker on it. Will this be an issue? Thanks guys.
Singapore - 5 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
You can bring your laptop with or without an stickers. The only thing they will ask you to do at the airport is to unzip your laptop bag and pass thru the scanner. After that, nobody cares about your laptop.
Answer 2 :
You can bring your laptop with you and it should go through the scanner for safety check. In singapore you should have genuine software installed and if you caught with pirated software it is punishable. You should know that singapore is a very strict country and you can't tell them "I don't know"
Answer 3 :
Take out the battery and put it in your check-in among a lot of stuff. Or better yet, make sure the battery is dead and hide your charger so in case they do want to look through it, no can do. I've entered singapore over 5x and have never had my laptop checked, but I hear that if you are caught with pirated software or even porn anywhere on your computer, you'll get in trouble. But, if your software is genuine and it just doesn;'t have a sticker, don't worry about it. the chances theyll search you are also very slim.
Answer 4 :
Declare yr items.
Answer 5 :
Nope. Singapore customs do not check whether your OS is genuine or not. That is not their job. I travel frequently with my laptop and can safely say they never check it other than to put it through the x-ray machine (with my other luggage)

Answer 1 :
Funan Center or Sim Lim Square James C
Answer 2 :
COMEX! This year's Comex was last August 30 to September 2. The biggest IT fair held at Suntec International Convention and Exhibition Center, Suntec City. All the lowest prices plus lots of freebies. I've been there so I know how hot the deals are! Funan is still good the whole year round but I would warn you of Sim Lim's negative feedback on tourist traps. if you can wait for COMEX 2008, that would be heaven!
Answer 3 :
Sim lim square nearest MRT is Bugis. electronics are cheaper on the higher levels of the building

Laptop prices in Singapore

Laptop prices in Singapore?
I am wondering how much worth to buy laptop in Singapore for somebody living in Germany?
Singapore - 2 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
it really depends on the brand and the type you are going for well prices here range from a thousand to more than 5 thousand singapore dollars... hmm, maybe it might be cheaper in Germany...
Answer 2 :
oh its something like approx EUR450 onwards for a low performance lap top or buying at the PC sales or some thing like this. Buying in Sim Lim Square can land u up somewhere there onwards. Like the above said, if you buy an EU compliant laptop that is better in performance, the price the above quoted is correct and in SGD. It could cheaper if u buy in EU nations like Portugal or Spain or inside Germany without paying the air ticket to here or shipping fee from Singapore to Germany. I have a friend from Germany and he buys lap top from Thailand and its cheaper than Singapore. Others buy from Hong Kong which is more worth than from Singapore by 20%-30%, as both is nearer to Germany than Singapore, so u can spend less time and/or time on it. But its ur call and whatever ur decision, hope u can land up a great deal on your desired laptop for ur use or as gift to others. Have a great weekend for u

i m going to Singapore from India...on may 28th....this date also coincides with the beginning of the great Singapore shopping festival....i would like to know what electronic items i can purchase ova there.....r they cheaper compared to India or U.S.....which r the good places to buy handycams, mobile phones, laptops,or any other gaming console...do i get any advantage of the shopping festival..plzz help??
Singapore - 7 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
their are many electronics that you can find in singapore i think that there must be an advantage at least since there is going to be a festival.
Answer 2 :
Everything and anything you want can be bought cheap in Singapore. Just come and see to believe.
Answer 3 :
Yes the great Singapore Sale, well cheap depending on the brand, China products are now flooding the market in Singapore, Japanese brands are still the best so I guess you have to take your pick the choice is entirely yours be it handycams, laptops etc. there will be a discount during this great sale look out for promotions or package deals. cheers!
Answer 4 :
Go to Mustafa Shopping Centre and Sim Lim Square. Better at mustafa. Its located at Serangoon Road near Farrer Park MRT Station. Its located at area known as little india and you can find all sorts of things cheaply there. Indian food lodging is also available at the vicinity. Enjoy your stay here.
Answer 5 :
Singapore has been terribly affected by the recession. Singapore shopping festival is targeted at tourists like you to make a profit for economy purposes. Electronic items cost a bomb here. In US itself, you can buy whatever you need. Handycams - Sony Style @ Wisma Atria - Orchard Road. Mobile Phones @ Nokia retail outlets. www.nokia.com.sg then you can check for their retail outlets. Gaming console recommend you Nintendo or Sony PS3 or Microsoft Xbox, latest one. No advantages except 7% take the GST claim before leaving Singapore. Thats it!
Answer 6 :
Consider computer accessories such as portable hard disks, thumb drives, etc. Their prices are good in Singapore. Check out a few shops in Sim Lim Square, then get it from the one with the best price.
Answer 7 :
sim lim sq

cost of laptops in singapore

cost of laptops in singapore?

Singapore - 4 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
The cost of laptops differs from brand, type and specs. For a mini notebook, it can cost you anything from S$600+ for a cheap one XP version at Sim Lim Square. Laptops with Vista Basic in Singapore can cost you at least S$1,100+, only cheaper if there are sales for it.
Answer 2 :
unknown Brand Standard Laptop is from 750-950 SGD. Acer from 1100 . HP low end from 1200 . Fujitsu / Toshiba / NEC from 1650. upper model around 3000 +. During PC show and Comtech show ( wait for next june, 08 is over ). prices for World Brand always 20 % off. some model even 40 % off for clear stock.
Answer 3 :
Cost of branded laptops like HP, Lenovo, Acer, Toshiba, Dell etc depending on the model are almost the same all over the world. I would advise you if you want to buy in Singapore go to a Company retailer only....avoid buying from just any electronics shop........
Answer 4 :
cheap entry level laptops cost around $600-700, while the high end could cost $2500-$3000. Medium range its roughly $900-S1000

What is, and where can I buy a good multimedia laptop in Singapore

What is, and where can I buy a good multimedia laptop in Singapore?
I'm a university student taking up a Digital Media course in Australia this year. I'm thinking of getting a good, graphics-intensive, media-orientated laptop. You know, for editing movies, 3-D graphics manipulation, photo-editing, etc. Not those heavy high-end desktop replacements. Just a relatively light, upper-tier one with widescreen and good multimedia capabilities. Should I get an iBook (Mac OS)? Or Windows Vista? What model would you recommend me as a digital media student? Where can I find such a model(s) at an affordable price? I'm willing to spend more than S$2000, but preferably below S$3000. Ones with International Warranties are best. Please help!

Answer 2 :
Singapore is total free tax countries. only 7 % sales tax (GST) and for tourist if the product it not for local use,and carry home when leave Singapore, can ask for 7 % cash refund at airport. i do not know prices in India , but India with high import tax, 10 % tatal tax for PC in Malaysia, Singapore will be much Cheaper for laptop , is over 14 brand and 30 model sold here, and there will sold diffence specification for same model to diffence countries.so i can give you any prices here, also sometimes ,egg 13-15 jun (over ) because of PC Show, NEC/FUJITSU/TOSHIBA with 10-20 % off for some model. i will advice ,when you are in Singapore, just look around,if model and price comfordtable ,just buy it./Place good for PC product, Funan IT Mall / Sim Lim SQ / Mustafa 24 hr centre

I am planning to buy a USED LAPTOP in Singapore. I am not sure if there is any trust worthy shop where i can purchase one. Although i am aware of the risk of a used laptop, i want to purchase one since my budget is low ( around 300S$) and requirement is urgent. Please suggest me some good store. Is there any store which is linked to any IT companies (which dispose off good laptops for the sake of upgrading)? Yes. SGD300 dollars is as big, to cite a metaphor, as big as the bullock cart wheels you see at Mandai Zoo. You should definitely find Genuine, Trustworthy and Not Fake stores in Singapore. Google for Acer and Dell. Make the order accordingly and in the discount coupon code type "USED". The prices (with HD ready monitors) should be $299.99 including GST and below

Where will I get cheaper laptops (Singapore or Malaysia)?
My cousin is travelling to both Singapore and Malaysia next week. I am looking for a high end laptop and have narrowed in on a fully upgraded Dell Studio 15 or HP HDX 16, whichever I find cheaper. I prefer the HP because of the 1080p display and superior graphic card. So where should I ask him to look for the laptop ? Malaysia (Kuala Lampur) or Singapore ? Also is there a place I can get cheap iphone? Dell costs around 1550 US$ in India without taxes and HP costs around 1700 US$ in singapore..These are the official prices on the respective websites.

Answer 1 :
The fake ones that you will find here and there (imported from china) are going to be cheaper, but remember, you get what you pay for. Where do you think all those fake MacBooks came from ?? Hmm Hmm?? Yep, Cheep fakes are always going to be 2 things, Fake and CHEEP Kind of like the Soul of any China person you can think of. (Edit) New Zealand, China and Brazil have large concentrations of manufacturing plants on the subject. To get a 12- 22% price reduction you will need to buy in bulk, MOQ starts with 1000 pieces for major brands, but if your lucky you might be good with a sample order of maybe 15 laptops, but its very rare, so maybe after Christmas. Its a low margin profit item in most cases, discount isnt going to be huge. ALso, I want to remind you, EU and USA are very strict when it comes to importing more then 3 of any item that contain high technology (CPU) and fee's are 12.5, 17.5 and 21.5% (European territory being the most costly of the 3)

They're cheaper in the US. If you buy a laptop from singapore, the warranty may not cover the product while you are outside of singapore.
Answer 2 :
Here is a site that does singapore check it out. You have to watch the 1min intro on how to search with it. Have fun ;)

Id say Beijing, China. Thailands laptops arent very reliable. Everythings made in china anywayy my dads bought a few cheapies out in Beijing and their great!
Answer 2 :
Definitely not Thailand, although prices have come down recently (like everywhere else) computers are expensive in Thailand due to high import tariffs. Singapore and Hong Kong are both duty free ports and have better prices and better selection. Check out Wanchai Computer City or the Mongkok Computer Centre in HK or Sim Lim Square in Singapore.
Answer 3 :
I've seen Acer laptops for sale at Tesco Lotus stores for 13,000 baht-368.723 USD

please help me, i am having difficulty in deciding whether to buy laptop in Singapore. And can you also give me some tips on what to look for on a laptop. and list of laptops.. please. thank you
Singapore - 1 Answers

Answer 1 :
Singapore has relatively affordable prices for electronics, that includes laptops. I would highly recommend you buy them here. I would suggest you buy one from Funan the IT Mall. That would probably be the safest choice for foreigners. The best place would be at Sim Lim Square though. The prices are cheaper but you could get gyped from some sales people. It depends on what you're looking for actually. All laptops have different specifications, like processor speeds, amount of ram and graphic capabilities. If you're into graphic intensive operations or designing, i would recommend a Macbook pro. If you're just a casual user, any conventional laptop would be fine. I can suggest brands for you though. Asus and Fujitsu are just my personal preferences from experience. Just ask the sales person to assist you in whatever that interests you

Answer 1 :
I don't know the actual rules but as long as you are not bringing too many laptops to sell (you're bringing only 2 laptops for personal use) ,it should not be a problem. I think most of the people travelling abroad do take their laptops with them. But make sure about the rules at the airport before boarding

Can I carry two laptops in singapore airlines from SFO to Delhi?

Answer 1 :
I have traveled within the US with two laptops. As far as I know there is no restriction as long as you stay within the carry on baggage restrictions.
Answer 2 :
Yes, as long as you stay within your maximum carryon bag allowance. If you are flying economy class, you are only allowed to have 1 carry on bag but there's no reason why you can't put 2 laptops into 1 bag. If you are flying in business or first class, you are allowed 2 carry on bags

Where to find ultraportable laptops in Singapore

Where to find ultraportable laptops in Singapore?
I will be in Singapore for a few days in late October and want to buy a laptop there. Anyone know where I can find a small, lightweight laptop at a decent price? I'm looking for a 12" screen or less, and weighing less than 5 pounds (2.25 kg). I was thinking of the Averatec 2300 but am open to other options, hopefully costing less than $1200. Thanks for your help! BTW I meant 1200 in USD. I don't know about in Singapore, but in Europe ultraportables are not often stocked in stores as there is not enough demand. So, I was hoping for something more detailed than "any electronics store!"

Answer 5 :
Fu Nan Center is Five levels of computer shops. You should have no problem finding what you want. You can also take time to browse the shops in Duty Free on your arrival. There's a guarantee that if you find it cheaper in town they will refund the difference. Avoid shops that will want to negotiate a price unless you know how much you should pay. Also make sure you are getting an international warranty. Good Luck
