Are there any taxes imposed on goods ordered online?
Currently in Singapore and I've ordered a laptop from UK and it's more than 2000 singapore dollars. It will be shipped in by DHL so do i need to worry about any taxes? Coz peeps have been saying that anything imported that's above S$900 is liable to the 7% GST.

Not for Private once in a wile imports, if you tell them you may have to pay say nothing know nothing and you'll be fine.
Answer 2 :
You could call your local DHL office there in Singapore and ask if there are additional custom import fees and taxes. I've had a number of friends working in foreign countries who buy computers in other countries, have a friend purchase them locally then mail them to the person working overseas. Good luck

You're better off with a laptop sleeve than a laptop backpack, since specialized backpacks tend to scream Steal Me. You can either go with a ghetto sleeve (check out instructables.com), or purchase one for 10-20 bucks online http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/ref=pd_kk_sr_1/002-3099881-7244046?index=blended&field-keywords=laptop%20sleeve

How long will it take my laptop ordered from excaliberpc (US) to reach Singapore via USPS Global Priority Mail
How long will it take my laptop ordered from excaliberpc (US) to reach Singapore via USPS Global Priority Mail
Hey all. I ordered a laptop (Asus M50sv-A1) from excaliberpc.com. I was wondering if anyone knows -how long it would take for the shipment to arrive at my doorstep provided that i used the USPS global priority mail. Currently it says International Dispatch in the tracking website but it hasn't changed for like 3 days. -how much tax will i be hit with and how do i pay it? -and lastly, between Express mail international and global priority mail, which one is actually faster? Thanks in advance

Answer 1 :
There is no more Gloabal Priority Mail, it was changed to Priority Mail International last year. Either of the two Express Mail products are faster than Priority Mail. You would have to check with your Customs services to find out how much you would need to pay in taxes and duty. The tracking message is not going to change until it gets scanned at Customs. You can use usps.com for tracking, but it would likely be better to use the tracking application at the Singapore Post Office website at this time
